Apollo
Apollo is a sales intelligence and engagement platform: a B2B contact and company database with built-in email sequences. Bryn works with Apollo in two modes on one API key: Enrichment, where Bryn looks up the companies and people it sees, and Output, where a Play enrols a person into one of your Apollo sequences.
Bryn uses your own Apollo account, so every lookup and every enrolment runs on your Apollo credits and plan.
How Bryn integrates Apollo
You connect Apollo with an API key under Integrations in the Bryn dashboard. One connection serves both modes: the enricher reads person and account facts with the key, and Plays use the same key to add people to sequences.
The kind of API key decides what Bryn can do. A standard Apollo API key works for enrichment only. To enrol contacts into sequences, Bryn needs a master API key, or a key scoped to sequences, email accounts and contacts. If you connect a standard key, enrichment works, but Plays cannot add anyone to a sequence until you reconnect with a key that has that access.
When you enter the key, Bryn checks it straight away:
- A rejected key shows an error beside the field and you cannot connect it.
- A key without sequence access shows a note that it still works for enrichment. You can connect it for enrichment on its own.
- A key with sequence access loads your Apollo sequences and the mailboxes you can send from, so you can pick the connection's defaults.
Verifying the connection uses Apollo's account health check, which spends no credits. Bryn keeps the key in encrypted storage; it is never shown again, logged, or passed to Plays.
The default sequence and sending mailbox are stored on the connection. To change them, reconnect Apollo, which checks the key again and offers both pickers.
Enrichment
Bryn looks Apollo up at two levels, each shown as its own source in the Bryn dashboard:
- Account level (Apollo): Bryn looks the company up by its domain and only keeps the record when Apollo's primary domain for it matches. It reads the company name, description, industry, employee count, annual revenue, total funding, founding year, country and location, number of retail locations, website, logo, and LinkedIn, X (Twitter) and Facebook URLs. Employee count, revenue, funding, country, industry and website feed the account's main fields, including its size band, which scoring uses.
- Person level (Apollo (people)): Bryn matches one person per lookup,
using the strongest key it has: a LinkedIn profile URL first, then an
email address, then a first and last name together with the company's
domain. A first name alone is never sent, so Apollo cannot match a
namesake. Bryn reads job title, first and last name, seniority (for
example
VPorDirector), job function, LinkedIn URL, phone number, email address and its Apollo status, and employer.
Enrichment only fills gaps. Person details from Apollo fill empty fields and never replace what a form, your team or a higher-priority source already set. Bryn only takes an email address from Apollo when Apollo marks it as verified and the person has none yet; guessed addresses, and the placeholder Apollo returns when your plan cannot reveal an email, are never stored as the person's email.
When it runs. Bryn looks an account up as soon as it has a domain, and a person as soon as one of the keys above is known. A person with only a name waits until the company domain arrives. Results are reused for 30 days before Bryn asks Apollo again.
When Apollo refuses. If Apollo rejects the key, Bryn flags the connection so you can fix it under Integrations. If your plan does not include an endpoint or you run out of credits, Bryn retries within the hour, so accounts are filled in once you fix the plan.
Output
A Play can add the person it acts on to an Apollo sequence. Apollo enrols contacts, so each delivery happens in two steps:
- Bryn creates the person as an Apollo contact, or finds the existing one. Apollo's duplicate check means a repeat delivery never creates a second contact or overwrites the one your team already has.
- Bryn adds that contact to the sequence, sending from the chosen mailbox.
Bryn sends the person's email address (required, since sequences email the contact), and where known their first and last name, job title, company name, company website and LinkedIn URL.
Set it up
- 1Create a master API key in Apollo
In Apollo's API settings, create a new key and turn on Set as master key, or give it access to the sequences, email accounts and contacts endpoints. Make sure the Apollo account has at least one active mailbox and one sequence.
- 2Connect Apollo in the Bryn dashboard
Go to Integrations, choose Apollo and paste the key. Pick a Default sequence (optional) and the mailbox to Send from. Apollo's own default mailbox is preselected.
- 3Add Apollo to a Play
In the Play's outputs, add Apollo and pick the connection. Leave the sequence and mailbox empty to use the connection's defaults, or pick others for this Play. Turn on Include unverified emails only if you want Apollo to enrol people whose email it has not verified; Apollo skips them by default to protect your sending reputation.
- 4Test the entry
Click Test on the Apollo entry. Bryn checks that the sequence still exists and the mailbox is active, without enrolling anyone. If the key cannot reach sequences, the test says so and asks for a master key.
A connection only counts as an Apollo destination once it is verified and has a sending mailbox. A connection made with a standard key is enrichment only, and Plays cannot deliver to it.
You'll know it worked when the person appears as a contact in your Apollo sequence, sending from the mailbox you picked. A person who is already in that sequence counts as delivered, and is not added twice.
Apollo can also decline a person, for example because they are active in another sequence or have no verified email. Bryn records that as a skipped delivery with Apollo's reason, not as a failure. If the mailbox has since been deactivated in Apollo, the delivery fails; link an active mailbox in Apollo, then reconnect or pick it in the Play.
